Dir. Wim Wenders. West Germany/France/UK 1984. 146mins. In English and Spanish with English subtitles.
Harry Dean Stanton, Nastassja Kinski, Dean Stockwell.
Wim Wenders’ haunting ode to America stars Harry Dean Stanton as Travis, a wanderer who emerges out of the desert with seemingly no memory of who he is or where he’s been. Awkwardly reunited with his family after years away, Travis must confront his past, the reasons why he left, and his wife and young son, in an effort to put the pieces of his life back together.
A beautifully performed, understated story of bittersweet second chances complemented by a haunting Ry Cooder soundtrack.
