‘One of the world’s great mandolinists’ makes a welcome return to The Square Chapel. Following his recent appearance at Wembley Arena with The BBC Concert Orchestra and the release of his internationally acclaimed album Carolan (Fantasias on themes by the father of Irish folk music (1670-1738), Simon Mayor celebrates Turough Carolan’s music and much more in an entertaining evening of warmth, wit, much banter, and exceptional musicianship.
He leads an illustrious cast of virtuoso musicians including Hilary James ‘one of Britain’s finest voices’ (BBC Radio 4) and wielder of the mighty mandobass; French born cellist Florence Petit; ukulele maestro and multi-instrumentalist Elias Sibley and from West End shows Oklahoma and Dolly Parton’s Christmas, three-time UK banjo champion and fellow mandolinist, Richard Collins.
‘A demon on the mandolin, an angel on the fiddle.’ Irish Music Magazine ‘Sheer musical brilliance.’ BBC World Service
