A little over 100 years ago, Halifax had a Zoo! Opened in 1909, this early “theme park” at Chevinedge housed many caged animals, yet the elephant walked the streets. The site also housed other attractions – the first cinema in Halifax, a roller-coaster, and a miniature railway. What was the orchestrion? Includes tales abound of special events, including balloon flights and an early aeroplane flight in the skies above. Then there was the meandering bear!
Ticket income from David Glover’s Illustrated Local History talks goes directly into supporting Square Chapel.
