Join us in the Copper Theatre for an intimate show featuring Tony McManus & Julia Toaspern. Expect intricate, enthralling arrangements alongside some ‘scintillating trading off between lead playing and accompaniment’ (Tim Readman, Penguin Eggs 2019)Hailed by the late John Renbourn – who was no mean guitarist himself – as ‘the best Celtic guitarist in the world’ Tony McManus has been listed as one of the 50 transcendental guitarists of all time by Guitar Player Magazine. Tony is joined by brilliant Berlin based Julia Toaspern, who combines classical violin and voice training with an interest in jazz, baroque and traditional music. Her skills as a guitarist are prodigious and make a very exciting fit with Tony’s work.Together, the duo’s guitar treatments of traditional music are unique, exploring the harmonic possibilities of these old, and sometimes not so old, tunes. Julia’s violin effortlessly morphs into a fiddle as she weaves from Italian madrigal to Scottish reel.
