Square Chapel receives critical arts funding from Arts Council England’s 2023-26 Investment Programme.

We are thrilled to announce that Square Chapel has successfully secured funding from Arts Council England’s 2023-26 Investment Round, and will be joining the National Portfolio of Organisations from April 2023.

Arts Council England’s National Portfolio of Organisations [NPOs] includes hundreds of creative and cultural organisations across the country. Each one receives three years of investment to ensure that people and communities everywhere can benefit from access to creativity and culture in line with their 2020-30 strategy, “Let’s Create”.

Square Chapel will receive a total investment of £477,000 (£159,000 per year) to continue collaborating with the community to deliver a wide range of creative and cultural activities across Halifax and Calderdale.

This investment will enable us to:

  • Develop our venue into a ‘Relaxed Venue’ – one which specifically supports disabled and neurodiverse people to access and enjoy a full range of cultural opportunities;
  • Bring a bigger range of creative, arts and cultural events to Halifax through a varied and exciting public programme;
  • Support and develop non-venue based cultural organisations within the borough with space, resources and advice to sustain their creative practice;
  • Become a key delivery partner of cultural and creative activities for the borough as part of Calderdale’s Year of Culture 2024.

“Having saved Square Chapel from administration during a worldwide pandemic, this investment gives us the stability we need to rebuild over the next three years. As well as a commitment to increasing access to the arts, we’ll develop local people and talent to lead and shape the creative and cultural programme we run. As a result, Square Chapel will be a relevant, community-focused creative hub for the people of Calderdale and beyond, long into the future.” – David Jenkins, Managing Director, Square Chapel
